Anything life-threatening, a crime in progress, or a fire: call 911 — not the non-emergency line.

Inside a town? your town’s police department may run its own non-emergency line separate from the Sheriff’s — check before defaulting to the county number.
What to expect: a non-emergency call still gets logged and can get a deputy sent out, just without the priority of a 911 call — expect a longer wait than you’d get in an actual emergency.
