The county’s Land Records/GIS office keeps the official property-line maps — free to browse at the county’s GIS map. It’s the same courthouse building as the Register of Deeds below, a different office inside it.
Looking for a recorded deed or survey plat instead of a map: that’s recorded with the Register of Deeds below, not Land Records/GIS.
A neighbor dispute over exactly where a line runs: county staff don’t adjudicate that — the map is a reference, not a legal survey. That needs a licensed surveyor, and if it goes further than a disagreement, civil court.
Need a printed or custom map (not just the online layers): Land Records/GIS can produce one for a fee.
What to expect: the free online map is usually enough to see roughly where a line runs. Anything that has to hold up legally — a sale, a dispute, a permit application — needs an actual licensed survey, not just the GIS layer.

Keeps the official property-line maps and parcel/GIS data — free to browse at the county's online GIS map — and can produce a printed or custom map for a fee. Recorded deeds and survey plats are handled by the Register of Deeds, not this office.

Can issue certified copies of birth/death certificates only for events that occurred in Haywood County — a different county's event needs that county's register of deeds, or NC Vital Records in Raleigh (vitalrecords.nc.gov), which covers the whole state. Certified copies are restricted by state law to the registrant, close family, or an authorized representative.
